Grid and general
Review mode
Menu bar
Every command is also in the menu bar at the top of the window, and Ctrl + K (or the search icon in the title bar) finds and runs any of them by name, along with folders and videos (see below). HoldAlt to see each menu’s access key, then press it to open the menu: Alt + F File, Alt + A Actions, Alt + V View, Alt + D Video, Alt + H Help. Commands that cannot do anything right now, such as Rescan without an open folder or Reveal in Explorer without an open or selected video, are greyed out.
The middle of the title bar shows where you are: in the grid, the folder at the top of the screen when grouped by folder, otherwise the folder you filtered to; in Review, the path of the open video and its place among the videos you are reviewing, such as
34 / 210; in duplicate groups, which group is at the top, such as Group 3 of 40, with buttons for the previous and next group. Type a number in place of the group number and press Enter to go to that group. Each part of the path has a menu with counts and actions for that spot:
- Grid folder: Review This Folder, Regenerate Thumbnails, Reveal in Explorer, Copy Path and Go to Folder.
- Video in Review: Reveal in Explorer, Play Externally, Copy Path, Review Only This Folder and Show Folder in Grid.
- Duplicate groups: Go to Group, Find Duplicates Again, Find Again with the other comparison method, Duplicate Settings and Back to Grid, with the space you could reclaim.
× clears the filter, and Include Subfolders in its menu switches to only the videos directly in it, marked only. Parts of the path after the filtered folder are greyed out: they only show where the grid is scrolled to. Each › lists the folders one level down, with how many videos each still has to review; pick one to filter to it, or All of at the top to step back up. Folders with nothing left to review are dimmed. With several folders loaded, the arrow at the start of the path shows all of them or one, and lists recent sessions under Open Recent to open instead. Alt + Left and Alt + Right step back and forward through the folders you filtered to, and Clear All Filters shows every folder again. A path too long for the title bar is shortened to … in the middle; select … to reach the folders it hides.
The actions for a part of the path open from the ▾ after the last part, by right-clicking any part, or with Down, the Menu key or Shift + F10 on a focused part. Ctrl + L focuses the path.
Ctrl + K opens one search for commands, folders and videos, showing the best few of each; every typed word must appear. Start with > to list only commands, / for folders or @ for videos. Go to Folder (Ctrl + G) opens the same search with / already typed: before you type, it lists the folders you picked recently, then the ones with the most left to review.
- Command:
Enterruns it. - Folder:
Enterscrolls the grid to it;Shift + Enterfilters the grid to it. - Video:
Enterselects it and scrolls the grid to it;Ctrl + Enteropens it in Review. - Search videos for ”…”, the last row, puts the text in the grid’s search box (
Ctrl + F), which keeps the grid narrowed as you go on.
Esc closes the menu. In the path menus, Left and Right move to the neighbouring part of the path.
While videos are marked for deletion, the right side of the title bar shows how many and their total size; select it to send them to the Recycle Bin, with the usual confirmation. In a narrow window it shows only the count.
While VideoCull is processing, the right side of the title bar shows what it is working on and how far it is, with a pause button. A progress line runs along the bar’s bottom edge, and the taskbar button shows the progress too. A +1 means another job runs at the same time, and a moon or power icon means the PC will sleep or shut down afterwards. Select the status for a panel with every running job and, after a few seconds, about how long each has left, plus Pause Processing and When Processing Finishes. In a narrow window the status shows only how far it is, then only a progress ring; point at it to see the full status.
While the privacy screen is shown, only Privacy Screen, Full Screen and Exit work.
Customization
Review, Search, theme, global mute, and shortcut-help bindings are customizable in Settings. App and window commands such as opening folders, rescanning, deleting the marked batch, clearing cache, exporting, fullscreen, documentation, and privacy are fixed. Click a keybind field, press the new combination, and save.Esc cancels recording. VideoCull detects conflicts between configurable actions and blocks saving until they are resolved. Reset defaults restores all configurable bindings at once.
Review bindings remain active when the embedded player has focus. The app claims configured Review shortcuts before the player’s built-in keyboard behavior, so the default K performs Keep during playback.
