VideoCull separates review decisions from file deletion. Keep, Delete, Skip, and Reset are reversible status changes. Files only leave disk when you run the final delete action and confirm the batch.
The final delete action includes every loaded video marked Delete, even when filters currently hide some of them. Check the total count and size in the confirmation.

Marking is not deleting

Use Reset to return any decided video to Pending. Undo reverses recent status changes while the current session remains open. To reset several videos without adding a separate reset-review action, filter the grid to the intended pool, Shift-click a card to start batch selection, select the required range or individual cards, and choose Reset. This returns only those selected statuses to Pending and preserves ratings, favorites, and bookmarks.

Review the batch first

Before confirming deletion:
  1. Filter the grid to Delete and scan the marked files again.
  2. Compare the confirmation count and total size with what you expect.
  3. Export an HTML report when you need a record of the decisions or want to review them outside the app.
  4. Cancel the confirmation if anything looks wrong. Cancelling does not change statuses or files.
The sidebar delete count is global to the loaded session, not the current filter. A filtered grid is useful for reviewing the Delete set, but hiding a marked video does not remove it from the batch. The report export can include all loaded videos or only the current filtered result. Exporting never changes files or decisions.

Recycle Bin and permanent fallback

VideoCull first sends each marked file to the Windows Recycle Bin. If that fails for some files, the app asks whether those failed files may be deleted permanently.
  • Choose Cancel to leave the failed files in place. Files already moved to the Recycle Bin remain there.
  • Choose Delete Permanently only when you accept that those files cannot be restored through VideoCull or the Recycle Bin.
  • A result message reports successful, failed, and permanent deletions separately.

Path and cache safety

Deletion requests are accepted only for videos inside the folders currently loaded in the session. Paths outside those roots are rejected. After a successful deletion, VideoCull removes the video from the session and clears its related cache rows and thumbnail files. Failed deletions remain available so you can investigate or retry them.

Empty-folder cleanup

Remove empty source folders after delete is off by default. When enabled, VideoCull removes source folders that become empty after successful video deletion. Leave it off unless cleaning the folder tree is part of your intended workflow. The delete confirmation states when empty-folder cleanup is enabled.

Recover a mistaken deletion

Restore files from the Windows Recycle Bin, then rescan the containing folder so they return to the session. A permanent fallback cannot be undone by VideoCull.
